In this guide i tell how i succeed to capture video from my canon recorder, add timestamp information on display and convert it to xvid video. Tools i use does not require any extra licensing, however some of them may not available to you depending on your operating system.

Tools i use:
* Windows Maker (Comes with Window OS, in order to capture video)
* DV_DateCode (Freeware, in order to extract timestamp information)
* Windows Media Encoder (Can be downloaded from microsoft, in order to extract sound from captured DV video)

1-) Use Windows Movie Maker to capture video


2-) Use DV_Datacode to extract timestamp information as subtitle



3-) Normally extracting sound is not required because every video rendering tool is also capable of rendering audio data. However the problem is, except windows media encoder, none of the tools (including commercial trial ones) i tried could handle audio. Some of them could not render DV audio, some could not set right bit rate/kHz info (which was not editable), some added noise...


4-) In order to use audio with virtualdump we should convert wma to globally supprted format mp3. I use "Switch Sound File Converter" tool to do this. Basic mp3 conversion is totally free in this tool. No trial or restricted. However extra functionalities required license which i dont use in this guide.


5-) Now we have video from DV avi, mp3 audio, timestamp subtitle file in hand. In this step we will be using virtualdub to create final xvid avi file. My DV avi is in 16:9 DVD format. So my xvid configuration settings depends on my DV avi and my custom setting. You may want to change these setting on your own however i strongly suggest that use standart pixel ratios compatible with most players. I use 640x360 in this guide.
Also, you should download subtitler filter for virtualdub to be able to add DV_DataCode generated subtitle to video.

Active session History (ASH) is a great enhancement came with oracle 10g. It takes session-state snapshots in every second so you can analyze what is going on your DB easily. Oracle Enterprise Manager Console and AWR reports mostly use ASH to provide all that kind of analysis, problem resolution and tuning tips to you. Altough these front-ends are great tools for general administration, they are not very cutomizable enough to do more specific analysis.


Let me give an example. Assume that you have a hot block problem on a specific object. You may want to list top 10 sqls cousing this contention. Furthermore, you may want to list top 10 application server machines from which opened connections cause this contention. This is an information that you can get from system tables but not from EM or AWR.
